1000 years ago, this hill lock, known as Thirucharanathupalli, was an abode for digambar jain monks. It is widely believed that the temple was built by King Vikramaditya.
Thirucharanathu bhataariyar – Pathmavathi is the goddess here. Besides, there are rock-cut sculptures of Thirthankaras. Lord Parshwanatha and Lord Mahavira idols are also carved in the temple.
Chitaral Malai is located about 7 km from Marthandam and 55 km from Kanyakumari. Marthandam is on NH-47. Buses are plying frequently between Nagercoil and Trivandrum on NH-47. The nearest airport is Trivandrum which is 50 km far.
